The aim of the project “SYMP.E.G.A.” is the practical application of the conclusions of research studies in a pilot cultivation of sea buckthorn of 5 varieties in order to restore the productive capability of the crop. By following an optimal business model for precision agriculture, an increase in quantity & quality of agricultural productivity is expected, using fewer inputs. The harvested sea buckthorn seeds will be exploited for the production (initially on a lab scale and then on a pilot scale) of an innovative product: biofunctional yoghurt enriched with sea buckthorn. The product responds to the market opportunity created by the ever-increasing consumer demand for healthy and functional foods. With the Sea Buckthorn market being promising, with increased profit margins & global demand steadily growing, the proposed approach will be a key contributor to saving input costs & increasing the production of higher nutritional value fruits.
